ABOUT US

The Global Interfaith Weekend to End Child Marriage is an initiative from Child Marriage Free World, a global campaign which aims to end child marriage, community by community. The campaign does this by working in partnership with schools and colleges, and grassroots, community, youth-led, and non-governmental organisations. It also works in partnership with governments to tackle the root causes of child marriage.

The Global Interfaith Weekend to End Child Marriage is inspired by the Indian Interfaith Network to End Child Marriage. In July 2024, the network was established and declared its support for the elimination of child marriage across India. Working with the Child Marriage Free India campaign, tens of thousands of Indian faith leaders, representing Hinduism, Islam, Christianity, Jainism, Buddhism, and Judaism became part of a movement which has mobilised millions of Indian citizens, across hundreds of thousands of communities, to pledge to end this form of violence against children.

In April 2025, the Indian Interfaith Network mobilised during Akshaya Tritiya, a holiday in India which is believed to be an auspicious time for marriage, and during which child marriages are conducted. More than 45,000 faith leaders took part in the nationwide campaign, and 12,000 child marriages were stopped or prevented.

During the Global Interfaith Weekend to End Child Marriage, we believe that faith leaders and their communities all over the world can be a powerful force to end the violent act of child marriage for good.
